I ask this question all the time to potential recruits for my network marketing business, members of my group, and people that I meet every day.

Most of the time, I get the same answer.  “Anything”.  But, when I probe a little further, I find out in 95% of the cases that the real answer is “Anything but that.”

Every single one of us has things that are outside of our comfort zone.  It is just part of human nature.

But, it is those of us who choose to step outside of our comfort zones that reach the highest level of success.  It’s true, that if you are willing to do what 95% of the people out there are not, you will have what 95% of the people out there do not.

Of course, that is easy to say.  It is much more difficult in practice to actually do.

When I look at self employed people who are struggling, especially those in the work at home or network marketing fields, I notice a alarming trend.  Maybe you or someone you know falls into this trap.

They say they are willing to do “whatever it takes to be successful”.  But then they tell you “well, anything but that”.

Public speaking is a great example.  Public speaking is one of the greatest fears on the planet.  In fact more people are scared of public speaking than they are of death.  So, chances are, doing a speech in public scares you or someone you know.

Here is another one, recruiting or cold calling.  In the network marketing field, this is a big one.  New marketers seem to think they can be successful just by talking to their friends and family.  But when you tell them they need to talk to people out in public they refuse.

They say they are willing to do anything to be successful.  Well, anything but that.

Stepping outside of your comfort zone requires one thing.  That is accountability.  You need accountability to yourself, or accountability to someone else.

It seems most people do not have the first one in that list.  And for running your own business, home based or otherwise, that one is the most important.

But let’s talk about the last one for a moment.  Accountability to others.  Do you think you are more accountable to yourself or to someone else?  I am wagering someone else.

What if tomorrow, your boss walked up to you and said you need to talk to 10 people about your job tomorrow or you are fired?  There will be no discussion about it.  If you don’t talk to 10 people tomorrow, and every day for the next 2 weeks you are out of there.

What would you do?  I am guessing, you would be out of there in a heart beat talking to every person you see.  In fact, it will probably come easy for you.  You are probably doing it already.

And, in the next 2 weeks you will have told 100 people about your job.

For most of you, however, you will not do that for your network marketing business.  Even though you know that by talking to 100 people over the next 2 weeks great things are going to happen, you are not willing to do it.  You are accountable to your boss.  But not to yourself.

You can apply this to anything you do that is outside of your comfort zone.  You are not willing to do it for yourself, but you will do it if your boss asks you to.  He asks you to jump, you ask how high.

You ask yourself to jump, and you say maybe tomorrow.

Success in any venture, whether it be network marketing, a home based business, or any other business requires you to step outside of your comfort zone.  And Iin order to step outside of your comfort zone, you need to be accountable.

Preferably, this accountability will be to you.  But, if not you, find someone who will act like your boss.  My guess is you are willing to do just about anything he or she asks to avoid getting fired.  You need that level of commitment in your own business.

Search your soul and talk to your loved ones.  Look to find someone or something to be accountable to.  Something so powerful that when you say you will do anything to become successful, you really mean it.

Once you are willing to be accountable to step outside of your comfort zone and do what no one else is willing to do, you will finally obtain the success that you and others are looking for.

But because there is so much information out there, it can be difficult to know exactly where to begin.  Do you pickup on the latest health fad that you see on TV on the 2:00 am infomercial?  Or do you join a gym, or purchase a piece of workout or fitness equipment for your home?

The truth is, all of these have merit.  There are many different paths to reaching your health and fitness goals.  It all depends on your goals, likes and dislikes.

And, that is the first important rule to a successful fitness plan.  Find something that you like to do.  Or at least do not hate but which can still help you meet your goals.

There is almost no point in committing your self to a regiment of daily jogging if you absolutely hate to run.  You may have the strongest will on the planet, but if you hate your daily routine, you are going to find excuses to skip it.

The same is true at the other end of the scale.  You may absolutely love lifting weights.  But if you goal is to lose weight, doing a weight lifting routine that is geared at building bulk is not going to help you to lose weight.

You need to find the best combination that works for you.  If you are just looking for overall fitness, the biggest key is to be active.  This could mean doing an activity like basketball, riding a bike or hiking.  Or it could mean something more focused and disciplined like attending an aerobics or boxing class.

The next 3 rules for a successful health and fitness plan ensure that you have the most success.  Your fitness plan should include strength training, cardiovascular activity and a healthy diet.  With out those 3 components, you are missing out.

No matter what your chosen activity is, you need to adequately prepare for it by stretching before participating.  By increasing your flexibility, you are helping to avoid injury and the pain you experience after your workout, exercise or play time.

It is important you stay hydrated.  Drinking lots of water will help keep your energy level high and help your cells to rebuild.

Ensure that you do not over do it, and give your body time to recover.  New muscle is built during rest time, after you exercise.  Give your body the time that it needs.  How much will depend on your current fitness level, overall health and age.

Finally, before starting on a new exercise routine you should always talk to your physician.  This is even more important if you are not in the best shape of your life.

There are many different ways that you can help to increase your health and fitness level.  Chances are you don’t have to be stuck doing something you do not enjoy.  Just follow these rules.

• Pick activities that you enjoy, but will still help you reach your fitness goals
• Ensure that you have activities that include strength training and cardiovascular activities
• Follow a healthy diet
• Prepare before working out or exercising by stretching
• Stay Hydrated
• Allow adequate time to rest
• Talk to your physician before starting a new exercise regime

The most important things are for you to be active and eat right.  So find a plan and stick to it.

Putting a health and fitness plan together can take some time.  But, if you follow these rules, you are taking the first step to find and execute a plan that will work for you.

Here I would like to focus on Twitter. Twitter is a relatively new social networking tool that works in a few different ways to let you keep in contact with and meet new prospects, associates and friends.

The first thing that Twitter does for you is allow you to ‘micro-blog’. Micro-blogging on Twitter involves posting tiny blurbs that are no more than 140 characters long (that’s not much!). These short posts are called “tweets” and they can really make an impact on your success!

For those of us in MLM, tweets are an effective way to post a message that has the potential for reaching thousands of people! Tweets are a way of letting people know what you’re up to, but for network marketers, the key is to create excitement and curiosity. So for example, you might start your day by tweeting something like this: Wow! Great day ahead! I’ve just published a new article to my blog! Then you would add a link to direct your readers to your site.

What you’ve done with a tweet like this is created a positive feeling, and directed your Twitter followers to something they can use. You’ve done some personal branding and helped create a feeling of trust in you. Your followers begin to think of you as someone who knows something and likes to provide value. You can begin to create a buzz about a new opportunity or product this way, too. Twitter is an excellent recruiting tool.

Twitter is also great because you can follow other MLMers. If you follow them, and they follow you back, you have two things going for you. By following other home business MLMers like yourself you’ll see their tweets and get a chance to learn from them. If they follow you back, your face (if you’ve uploaded your photo), user name  and messages will appear on their feed every time you tweet – giving you visibility to important people who can be very important recruits for your business. With Twitter connections will be made!

Something else that is very exciting about Twitter is that you can set it up so that it connects to your blog, and all of your other social networking accounts. What this means is that when you tweet, that tweet will appear on you blog – interesting for your blog readers! And when you tweet, your MySpace friends, your Facebook friends, and anyone else you’ve connected with via different social networking sites will see your updates! This is great for making sure that everyone knows what you’re up to in your MLM business. You can also turn it the other way round. When you publish a new post on your blog, or post a new note on Facebook, they will also post automatically on your Twitter profile.

Now, the trick with Twitter is to remember that you need to add some humanness into your daily tweets and you need to participate. Sure, tweet away about your MLM business – but it’s pretty important that you don’t blast your followers only with that! They will get frustrated and dump you.

So, remember to add the tweets like this: Whew! Just finished running two miles – that ought to burn some calories! Or maybe: Just finished watching the funniest episode of ……! You get my drift, right? Be a friend and let your followers see that you’re interested in more than just your MLM business.

Likewise, be sure to tweet to your followers and the people that you follow. You can comment on something they tweeted about, or say a quick good morning. You can also send direct messages if you intend to start a conversation.

In it’s early days, Twitter got some bad press. People were saying it would never last. Now it’s one of the most powerful networking sites out there, being used by everyone from A list celebrities and TV Channels to the little ‘you and I’ users to communicate with friends! It’s definitely different, and that’s part of its charm. So go ahead, sign up for your own Twitter account and start tweeting. Follow the gurus and get your face and name out there. Connect it to your other social networking sites and you’ve got a recipe for MLM success!

Up until a few years ago, Squidoo wasn’t even heard of. Heck it wasn’t even live and available to the world until 2006. Now, it’s a powerhouse for social marketing! The growth of Squidoo has been phenomenal. But what is it? What’s it all about?

What else is great about Squidoo? Joining Squidoo is very easy and you can get to know people who are like you – who share the same interests or maybe work in the same type of business as you. You can also link your Squidoo lenses to your website or blog and you can set it up so that every time you update your lenses, a tweet is posted on Twitter. Squidoo is one of those networking sites that really does connect you in a lot of different ways.

And here is one of the best things about Squidoo – Google loves Lenses! If you create a great lens, chances are, you will eventually find it ranked on Google! More recognition and traffic for you!

If you really want to make an impact, you can create several related lenses on Squidoo. You could create one about your MLM opportunity, one about your own MLM journey, one about products, one that offers tips and techniques for owning a successful MLM business. The list could go on and on – use your imagination and think about what your potential recruits or customers would like to see and read.

So, let’s sum up, shall we?

Squidoo should be part of your business marketing plan because it’s easy to join and to get one or many lenses up and running quickly. It’s a fantastic way to meet people who are interested in what you have to offer, and it’s a great way to meet people who are working in MLM and who are willing to share ideas and information. Finding prospects and leads is made easier when you create Squidoo lenses that grab the attention of viewers and pull them in.

So don’t forget to use the power of Squidoo lenses as part of your MLM plan!

Facebook really is all about networking. You can connect with friends, both old and new and build different networks of friends based on the things you have in common with them. Aside from using Facebook to connect with friends, which is what many people use it for, you can also use it to create groups of friends, or to join groups that are built around your love of network marketing and MLM and a common desire for success.

Facebook is easy to join and allows members to create a profile that will give friends a comprehensive snapshot of you and what you’re about. One of the features of Facebook is a “news feed” that is added to each time one of your friends changes status or does something like makes a comment or adds a link to his or her profile.

This allows you to keep up with what your friends are up to and it alerts them to what you’re doing. To network on Facebook with other network marketers and MLM professionals your best bet is to connect with like-minded people through Facebook groups.

You are likely to find several MLM and Internet marketing groups on Facebook that appeal to you and you can join each of them if you like. This gives people a way to see and get to know you and for you to get to know other marketers. The point of joining groups on Facebook is to interact with other group members.

You can learn from them and they can learn from you. A lot of good-natured idea and information sharing goes on, which leads to every participant having more resources for success. But you need to go beyond the groups in order to really benefit from Facebook networking. Start to make “friends” with other group members. You can do this by going through group list and inviting individual group members to be your Facebook friends.

One way to accomplish this is to go down the list and simply request each person as your friend. You can choose to send them a message along with your request, which is helpful if they don’t already know you. But don’t send the exact same message to each person – you’ll be accused of spamming by Facebook and risk losing your membership!

Once your own friend list begins to grow, you might want to separate your friends into lists so you can keep track of them. For example, you can create a family list – that’s where your family will go (obviously).

Then you could create a college friends list, or a church friends list or whatever, and of course, you will want to create an MLM friends list. Eventually you will be able to post a new link on your profile and it will be seen by hundreds of people within a day or two.

The beauty of it is that you have the prospect of gaining new friends each time you add a friend to your list – they all have friends that you might like to connect with as well!

As you can see, networking through Facebook is easy to do, and it has the potential for growing your list of connections by leaps and bounds! They want to identify with you and they want someone they can look to as a role model. They want someone who will share tips and information and also tell them what to avoid. They want someone who isn’t afraid to put themself out there in public and make a name for themself. If you can do that, you’ll gain readers and subscribers and you’ll grow your business!

• Your goal setting tips.
• Stories about other successful people – they don’t have to be network marketers, just stories about successful people who reached their goals through hard work and perseverance.

For those of you who are hesitating to start their own blog, I want to share with you some excellent reasons to:

• It’s easy. Even people who are technologically challenged can start a blog!
• You can increase traffic to your website from your blog.
• You can automate your blog posts, meaning that you can write one today, and set it up to post on any date that you choose.
• Google likes blogs!
• You can get backlinks to your blog and increase your page rank.
• More visibility and another excellent way to build your personal brand.
• You can monetize your blog with Adsense and earn some extra money!
• You can sell products (yours or other people’s) through your blog.
• People will subscribe and you’ll have an audience that is just waiting for your next post!
• If you post on a consistent basis, your reader base will increase.
• Readers can post comments, which means they can participate. You can answer comments if you like, creating a sense of trust and friendship.
• You will earn the reputation of being an expert!

I hope I have convinced you to either start a blog or to continue blogging with lots of energy. Blogging is an incredibly powerful way of bringing in more traffic to your MLM website and making those valuable and highly sought after sales and recruits that we all need for success!

MLM recruiting comes down to 2 things.  And you already know what they are, because they are listed right in the name.  “Network” and “Marketing”.

That is simplified, but what growing your group comes down to, is building a big network, and then marketing to that network.  Unfortunately, most of your existing network may already be tired of hearing your message.

This is where social networking can come to the rescue for your business.  In all of human history, there has never been a faster way to build up your group of friends and acquaintances.  And then present them with your marketing message.

Social networking allows you to meet more people who are just like you.  People looking for a business opportunity.   Or people looking for the product that you are selling. 

Remember how excited you were when you first saw your company’s compensation plan?  Do you see the excited faces out there when you attend a conference? 

There are many more people like that out there.  But they are unlikely to come from your small group of friends and family.  However, chances are very good, they are using social media.

Social networking is exactly what the name implies.  It is “social” and “networking”.   Do you see the common thread?  Network.  This is where the 2 activities, social media and MLM, mesh.

You already know people will only be interested in your opportunity or products if they know, like and trust you.

To understand how that works, think about this example.  Many people in network marketing opportunities manage to recruit some of their best friends or family right away.   You have to realize, that those people signed up because of you.  Not your opportunity or products.

It is the same when using social media.  After you have built a group of “friends” who know, like and trust you, you will find they are open to your marketing message.

The 3 steps you follow, and how they mesh is easy to remember.  They are right in the names “social networking” and “network marketing”.

1. Social – Using social networking tools, be social, be friendly and give useful information.
2. Networking – Build a network of friends and associates who know, like and trust you.
3. Marketing - Put your opportunity and / or products in front of your associates who you know are looking for them.

There are 2 social networks which are almost mandatory if you want to succeed in your networking marketing business.  There are also many others which may be of value.

The first is Facebook.

Facebook has over 400 Million users.  In fact, it is estimated that at least 1/2 of all Internet users in the US are on Facebook.  And they spend an average of 1 hour per day checking updates.

This is huge.  If there are no Facebook users out there that are interested in what you have to offer, you are offering the wrong things.

Facebook can be utilized through both your personal profile and through business fan pages.  Can you imagine having loads of fans for your MLM business?  Hundreds or thousands of people, in your circle, that are actually interested in hearing your marketing message.

Would that be better than chasing after your friends and family?

Next in line, for social media, is Twitter.  A little smaller, with only 90 million users, Twitter still has a huge number of leads hanging out.

Twitters approach is different than Facebook’s.  It allows you to send short “status” updates to your friends, fans or followers.  These short status messages can contain links to more information.  But in general they are not followed as closely as messages that you post on Facebook.

However, it is much easier for you to find hundreds, even thousands of fans very quickly.  Out of those thousand, you can find gems that will look for more information on your blog, site or Facebook page.

There are many other social media sites out there.  Some will be general like Facebook and Twitter.  Others are very specific, possibly for a niche that is related to your network marketing business.  But Facebook is by far the largest social group on the planet right now.  Twitter is growing quickly, and is almost as well known.

Social media and network marketing mesh almost seamlessly.  By being social, you are building likeability and credibility within a large circle that are open to your marketing message. 

And the best part is, you can start using these techniques starting today.  Facebook, Twitter and most of the other social networks you will ever want to use are completely free.

Running you MLM / Network marketing business can get overwhelming at times, but by using social networking, you can quickly build a large group to market to.

You’d buy from the expert wouldn’t you? Most people would agree with you – that it’s better to buy from an expert. That’s why in your MLM business, it’s extremely important to be an expert in the eyes of your customers and the people who may eventually become a part of your downline.

Article marketing is one way to effectively build your reputation as an expert. It’s easy to do and completely free, and it has a huge impact! A well-written article that is packed with good, solid information is the kind of article that will find its way in front of potentially thousands and thousands of eyeballs! All these eyeballs could belong to potential customers!

Let’s start at the beginning. How can article marketing make you an expert? It’s very simple, actually. If you publish a good article online – one that informs, helps and even entertains, people will read it and associate you with the topic of the article. If you publish more articles on the same topic or related topics and people find those articles to be helpful and interesting, people will begin to think of you as an expert on the topic. They can bounce between your articles and start to build a great respect for you and your knowledge.

Being an expert is an advantage, as we’ve already discussed. Think about it. If you have a toothache, you are going to consult with your dentist about it because he or she is perceived to be an expert on how to handle toothaches. You’re not going to ask your car mechanic about your toothache.

In MLM, the concept is the same. You have your business opportunity and your products. You are an expert on those things. One way to prove that to the public and to gain the confidence of customers is through publishing many, many articles that constantly reinforce your image as an expert.

I bet someone who is reading this is thinking, “Oh, but I can’t write articles!” It’s true that some people don’t feel they have the skill (they are skilled at other things) to write an article. And some people haven’t got the time or inclination to do it. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use article marketing as a way to build your reputation as an expert. What this means is that you should get help with writing articles.

You own your own business. You know your products inside and out. You believe in your products. You’re an expert! Just because you can’t or prefer not to write your own articles doesn’t take that away from you! Consider hiring a skilled ghostwriter who will write the articles for you. You receive all rights to the article when you pay your ghostwriter, and then you will publish the articles in your name! There is nothing wrong with doing this, and in fact it shows that you know how to capitalize on your own talents and let someone else capitalize on theirs! It’s working smart!

Articles can be published in article directories online. You can also publish them on your own website or blog too. You may want to mail them to the people on your email list, or even allow a business associate to mail them to those on his or her list (keeping your own name and contact information connected to the article).

The point here is to use article marketing to your advantage. It’s a great way to build your reputation as a trusted expert for your customers, a great way to generate traffic to your site, and a great way to build your business!

At this time, there are over 190 million Twitter users.  This means, that no matter what your network marketing product or service, it is a safe bet that your ideal recruits and leads are hanging out there.  And the first rule of marketing anything is to be available where your ideal customers are.

The key, is knowing how to find them.  And then marketing to them.  And that is where Twitter shines.

Very simply put, Twitter is what is known as a micro blog service.  It allows you to send out short messages of up to 140 characters in length.  These messages are called status updates, or “tweets”.  They can consist of any information you can imagine.  They can also include links to more detailed information.

A user signs up for a Twitter account.  They are interested in starting a new business.  Or, maybe they are already in a network and are trying to learn the latest techniques.  Or, they are interested in the types of products you sell.

They do a search and your profile comes up, so they follow you.  At this point, you can begin to build a relationship with this “follower” by tweeting useful information relevant to your network marketing business.

As you continue to tweet, your relationship begins to build.  This in turn:

• Attracts people to you (Twitter search that finds you)
• Strengthens loyalty of your existing group (Your followers gets critical information right away)
• Positions you as an expert. (You are giving valuable information) 

Obviously, it is difficult to maintain a relationship at 140 characters or less.  But it does allow you to break the ice, jump start a relationship and invite your followers to find out more information.  In fact, your messages are just long enough to spark curiosity, which has your prospects seeking you out for more.

Which makes more sense?  Chasing after prospects recruits and leads.  Or having people actively look for and pursuing you? And then finding out what you have to say.

A twitter account is completely free.  It only takes a couple of minutes, and your account can be setup and running.  Do a search on MLM, Network Marketing or a product you are interested in, and follow a couple of people.  Then send out a few Tweets to get a feel for the process.

Twitter is not going anywhere.  If you are not using it, you are leaving many hot leads and prospects searching in the cold.  Your ideal prospects are hanging out there, and they are looking for you.  As a Network Marketer or MLM professional, it is your job to let yourself be found.
